Here are some music games that you can try out.

Here is one of our favorite songs you can move to. Remember we learned a little bit about Country Music! :) Listen for the keyboard, drums, and guitar.

Snowflakes Falling Down

Grades 2 - 4

Here you can learn a little bit more about the instruments of the orchestra.

You can visit the following website each week to learn about a different composer or genre of music. You can listen, read and even take a quiz! I believe this week's composer is Vivaldi.

This website is called Classics For Kids

Here is a video from one of our favorite groups, The Piano Guys. :)
Look at all the different ways they can use the piano to make sound.  Enjoy!

Music Websites

Hello everyone!

I hope that you are taking good care of yourselves and your families during this difficult time. Just know that I am thinking about you and missing all Saddle Ridge students very much. We certainly have a lot of fun together in the music room!
As we begin our journey of online learning on April 6, I will be using this Music Blog page weekly to provide some websites and activities related to music that you could try at home.

Here are some music websites that we have looked at in class for you to explore to help practice musical concepts including beat, rhythm, melody, dynamics, tempo, etc., and to learn about composers, instruments and learn some new songs. 🎵

Music Room Update

Grade 1 and 2

The grade ones and twos just had their Winter concerts last week. They were incredible. The students practiced so hard and were super excited to share this with their families and friends. Thanks for coming out and showing your support. They made me very proud and I feel very fortunate to teach such wonderful and talented children!!

Grade 3 and 4

The grade threes and fours have been learning about our 'composer of the month' Tchaikovsky. We have been studying music from 'The Nutcracker' and learning about form and using body percussion and movements to figure out how the music is organized. We have been learning about different instruments of the orchestra including the clarinet, trumpet and french horn. We have also been playing the Boomwhackers to some favorite seasonal songs.

Kindergarten

The kindergarten students have also been listening to music from 'the Nutcracker' by Tchaikovsky. They have continued to explore the beat and learning about body percussion to show how the music is organized. They learned about a new instrument called the celesta and are beginning to learn about other instruments of the orchestra. They have also continued to play non-pitched instruments (hand drums, tick-tock blocks, etc.) to help develop their understanding of basic rhythms and literacy skills. We learned the song 'Time for Toys' and also played a fun game called 'Jack-in-the-Box'.

What's up in the Music Room?

The Grade 1 and 2 classes have been working very hard preparing for their upcoming winter concert. They are performing the musical Toys: The Night They Come Alive. The grade 2 concert will be on Dec.10th and the the grade 1 concert will be on Dec. 12. The students have been learning songs, actions and dances, and some have been learning instrument parts and the actors have been learning their lines.

Our Remembrance Day assembly this year was lead by our Grade 4 students, including the grade 4 choir. They did an amazing job! In the music room they have been learning a piece of music called Autumn Wind which incorporates poetry, movement, sound effects (using non-pitched instruments such as the woodblock, hand drum or guiro), melody and an ostinato (repeated musical phrase) using the barred instruments.

The kindergarten classes have continued to explore beat, rhythm and different non-pitched instruments including the maracas, woodblocks, tambourines and hand drums. We have been learning about volume and how we can play and sing quietly and loudly and how the tempo can change from slow to fast.

The grade 3s have been learning about improvisation and different rhythmic patterns. They have been using many of the barred instruments and improving their technique. They have also been working on developing their singing skills. Some of our favorite musical pieces include Down at the Baker's Shop and  Hilly and Gully Rider, as well as performing different rhythms and movements using the rhythm sticks.

The Grade 3 and 4 students have also has the opportunity to play the Boomwhackers to songs related to Halloween. It was a lot of fun!
